So I got distracted...

Well, working purely on my throne didn't last long as shortly after I made the frame, I decided to build this:

(Please excuse the quality of the shots, both my cameras were dead so I had to take the picture on my phone).

I think I might start adding more bits of scenery to my blog to mix things up a bit. My Cult probably will be hiding behind it anyway!

And just so show that I wasn't completely distracted, here's the state of the throne so far:

Unfortunately I seem to be battling quite a bit with Milliput for this one as after mixing it and leaving to harden, it doesn't completely set making it difficult and time consuming to smooth down.

An Update

Its been a while sine I've posted anything, mainly because its been a while since I've even touched anything to do with the Cult. In fact, I've not really done much painting since Christmas (Skyrim dragged me in for a few months and various other things have been taking my time since).

Things I've been up to recently are working on the bike for my Hybrid's sidecar (Link) which consisted of stripping down a Scout bike. That project hit a hold when I couldn't construct some decent wheels so I'll have to resume it once I get round to buying some.

What I'm currently working on is a throne for this guy:

I managed to buy this chap on eBay for a decent price (i.e. less than £50) but as a result he came without a throne. After browsing through Google, I found the following image:

This throne inspired me to create a 'pod' like throne based off the backs of the older Genestealer models. Its going to require some pretty intensive greenstuff / milliput work and I've only got the frame of it sorted so far.

Hopefully I'm going to get onto building the structure with milliput soon....

The Father Walks Among Us!

So to end my 11 day holiday, I decided to paint up my running Patriarch (I also have the throned one but not the throne itself).

This was another early Genestealer purchase for me - I actually found it in a 'bargain bin' of models and only paid something like 50p to 2 pounds for it (nowadays you might have to spend about £20 upwards on eBay). Unfortunately though it was missing one of its claws which I replaced with one from a Genestealer - perfect size, though not a perfect match (though it still doesn't look bad).

I painted it as I painted the Genestealer, but with a few extra layers of highlighting and a less bright blue to finish off the carapace.

Whilst the general result is not bad, I was initially a little unsure about the end result - the carapace has a very strange 'cracked' texture to it which I wanted to try and preserve but felt it may come across as a little messy and initially thought my final highlight stage was again too bright.

I also messed up one of my highlights by mixing the wrong colours, though the difference is barely noticeable.

Finally, I finished off the model with a resin base from the Citadel basing kit which really added something to the model (like most of the other pieces in the kit).
