Ruined!

(See here for the WIP shots).

Double post today as I've just finished the ruin I've been working on. Took me a bit longer to complete but I'm pretty proud of the results (despite me also buying the wrong shade of grey to finish it off).

It was pretty easy and cheap to make. The only thing I had to buy to specifically build it was some filler and paint, I had the other components lying about.

Here's what I used:

  • Corrugated card (double thickness) - used for the base and the basic structure.
  • Scrap paper / card cutoffs - used to build the bases of all of the rubble heaps.
  • Filler (the quick dry stuff from a tube is easier to use for this) - used to build up and fill the gaps in the walls and rubble heaps.
  • Sprue cutoffs (chopped up pieces of sprue left over), ballast and sand - used to cover the rest of the model.
  • I also added some sandbags, barbed wire and other bits for extra details.
And here is the results:

I Got Mail!

So after a week away from work I received a few parcels today containing the following:

First up is the crashed ship from (I think) the 40k 4th edition starter set:

This will make a good piece of scenery for the cult (the Patriarch had to get to the planet somehow).

Next up is the model that is supposed to pilot the ship:

After a good soak in Dettol and a bit of conversion work, this chap will make a good Hybrid.

I also received the wheels I ordered for my bikers (here's the link to where I ordered them from):

These wheels are about the same size as the Space Marine bike wheels though unfortunately they're one sided so I'm going to have to do some greenstuff work to make them work with my bikes.

So I got distracted...

Well, working purely on my throne didn't last long as shortly after I made the frame, I decided to build this:

(Please excuse the quality of the shots, both my cameras were dead so I had to take the picture on my phone).

I think I might start adding more bits of scenery to my blog to mix things up a bit. My Cult probably will be hiding behind it anyway!

And just so show that I wasn't completely distracted, here's the state of the throne so far:

Unfortunately I seem to be battling quite a bit with Milliput for this one as after mixing it and leaving to harden, it doesn't completely set making it difficult and time consuming to smooth down.

An Update

Its been a while sine I've posted anything, mainly because its been a while since I've even touched anything to do with the Cult. In fact, I've not really done much painting since Christmas (Skyrim dragged me in for a few months and various other things have been taking my time since).

Things I've been up to recently are working on the bike for my Hybrid's sidecar (Link) which consisted of stripping down a Scout bike. That project hit a hold when I couldn't construct some decent wheels so I'll have to resume it once I get round to buying some.

What I'm currently working on is a throne for this guy:

I managed to buy this chap on eBay for a decent price (i.e. less than £50) but as a result he came without a throne. After browsing through Google, I found the following image:

This throne inspired me to create a 'pod' like throne based off the backs of the older Genestealer models. Its going to require some pretty intensive greenstuff / milliput work and I've only got the frame of it sorted so far.

Hopefully I'm going to get onto building the structure with milliput soon....
