I'm Back...Kinda

So I haven't painted in a long while. I've been quite busy with work and any time I found to paint, I haven't spent on 40k (possibly due to lack of playing).

However, I found myself with some spare time at the weekend and decided to finish a piece I was working on. Its not for the Cult, but it is a start:

I've got 20 of these guys (enough to make 2 squads) so I'm aiming to make one squad have red berets (paratroopers) and one to have green berets (commandos). Obviously they're for my Imperial Guard though they could be used within my Cult as either corrupted special force or something to break up the uniform of any non-Cultists that I use.

In other news, I've finally stripped the paint off my Genestealers who have been sitting in Dettol for the best part of (if not more than) a year.

This Blog Needs More Genestealers

People are never coming up to me complaining that there are not enough Genestealers on this blog, and to try and make sure that this remains the case, here's a picture of a Genestealer that I painted all those years ago:

I've decided that as I've got far too many guardsmen to paint that I would break things up by painting about five or so of these guys to match the genestealer I did over a year ago.

Unfortunately, since then GW have taken down their painting article. Fortunately, I found someone who had printed it off and uploaded the scans here. I took my own screen shots of that scan and now I have a handy painting guide I can use even when I'm away from the Internet.

I think the model captures what I think a Brood Brother should look like.

I've also decided that snow covered rubble is the direction I'm going to go with the bases as it ties in my Imperial Guard and Blood Angels forces.

The £10 Challenge - A Partial Success

The Challenge

Well I'm back from my challenge and despite me completing it, its not as successful as I originally thought it might be.

I managed to pick up a few key pieces for scenery building but most of the money went on unexciting things.

I got a large sheet of foam core for £3.50 (which took the biggest chunk out of the budget). Whilst this sheet will last me for a while (its at least A2 in size, maybe even A1) its not a very exciting purchase.

The next biggest spend was a long (2m) outlet pipe that I picked up for £1.99. Its a lot of pipe to use but will come in handy.

After that, I got some backing card (card that is thicker and stiffer than cereal box / thin card). An A3 sheet was about £1.49.

By now, most of the budget has been spent and its all useful but not that interesting. The remains of the budget were spent on some cheap, vinyl floor tiles that should be good for basing as they have an uneven texture to them and were very cheap (£1 for about 4 square feet) and on two 90 degree pipe bends (for toxic waste pipes) - each one costing 99p.

So as you can see, I've hit my budget but I'll have to do a lot of rummaging through my spare bits and recycling to turn it into something interesting.

The £10 Challenge

At work we've been discussing the possibility of starting up a Necromunda campaign but unfortunately all our scenery is aimed more at 40k and not very three dimensional.

So this morning, I issued myself a £10 challenge to build a few pieces of Necromunda scenery by spending just £10 and using the odds and ends I have lying about.

At the moment, I've got an almost blank shopping list - the only item I need to get is some foam core for better looking bases, everything else is just what I can find.

The challenge is not to find the best deals on stuff or anything like that, its simple to set myself a budget and see what I can make.

I'm still working on the Scavvy however.
